Narwhal Fun Fact to Share While You Color

Here’s something wild you can tell your kids while they color their narwhal:

A narwhal’s tusk — that long, twisty horn on its head — isn’t actually a horn at all.

It’s a tooth.

A real, honest-to-goodness tooth that grows out of its face and can be up to 9 feet long.

And get this — that tooth is super sensitive, kind of like a giant underwater antenna.

Scientists think narwhals use it to “taste” the water around them to help find food and figure out where they are in the ocean.

So next time your kid says they brushed on their teeth, you can tell them, “Well, at least yours don’t stick out of your head like a narwhal!”
