Winter-Themed Activities for Families in Warmer Climates
Have we got something for families like us who live in warmer areas, such as Phoenix, Arizona (aaah).
While we’re originally from the Midwest, where snow was a part of everyday life in winter, our kids have had limited experiences with it.
But that doesn’t mean we can’t make winter magical for them!
Here are some fun indoor activities to teach and educate your children about snow, all while enjoying some January Coloring Pages Free to complete the experience:
1. DIY Snow Sensory Bin
Fill a large bin with Insta-Snow powder or make your own “snow” with a mix of baking soda and conditioner.
Add small toy animals, shovels, and scoops to create a snowy play scene for your kids.
2. Snow-Themed Storytime
Snuggle up with books that bring snow to life! Here are a few recommendations:
• The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats (perfect for young readers with vibrant illustrations).
• Over and Under the Snow by Kate Messner (teaches about animals and their habitats during winter).
• National Geographic Kids: Snow by Marion Dane Bauer (filled with real-life photos and facts about snow).
3. Watch Movies That Celebrate Snow
Create a cozy movie night featuring films that highlight snowy landscapes.
Here are a few kid-friendly picks:
• Frozen (of course, a must for snowy magic!).
• Happy Feet (a heartwarming story set in icy Antarctica).
• National Geographic’s Frozen Planet (showcasing the beauty and science of snow-covered regions).
4. Frozen-Themed Movie and Cocoa Night
After watching a snowy movie, whip up a vegan hot cocoa bar with plant-based milk and fun toppings like vegan marshmallows, sprinkles, or a dash of cinnamon.
5. January Color Page Fun Realistic Snow Art Projects
Encourage your kids to color January Coloring Pages Free that feature snow scenes and animals.
Pair this with snow-themed craft projects, like making glittery snow globes or snowflake paintings with cotton swabs.
By using creative indoor activities, your kids can still experience the magic of snow, even in the desert!
